I don't know what happen, but have a number for one of her daughters which I will call.
Ellen had been missing from MIRT for the past month and we wondered what happened to her. She had a miserable commute of several hours each way to her job in New York City and I figured that she was just busy.
Ellen was 64, a widow for some years, the mother of four and grandmother of seven. She loved DU.
Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. I've left a phone message for her daughter.

Well, it makes me sad and it makes me happy.
I wouldn't have known her but for this board.
And I wish I had met her in this life.
I will see you in the afterlife, GFH!!!

(11,621 posts)The only thing I could think to say to my siblings as we stood in a circle by our Mother's casket was "We're next." and I'm reminded of this every day, both here on DU and in real life. We're next. Live like it's your last day, everyone, because it just might be.
Deepest condolences to Ellen's family and friends.

(10,459 posts)And to all the DUers who are mourning the loss of yet another one of our members,
get accustomed to those rites of passage. We're a group and many of us are getting older. I turned 64 a few weeks ago and might just be waxing on my own immortality, but it made me realize, once again, how precious and important we are. WE ARE ALL IMPORTANT.
Those who do great things will always be celebrated. Those who are not celebrated are just as important. We are all important. We are all necessary. We are all one.

(83,898 posts)GratefulforHope was a mod the same time that I was. I mostly got to know her in that capacity. I remember that she was very level headed and able to take care of business when needed. She was one of the nicer DUers I ever encountered. This is a big loss for DU as a community.

(1,135 posts)I realized this was someone special. I've only been a member little over a year and take long breaks from all things political. So I wasn't familiar with her name. So, I decided to see who she was.
I read through her posts and I was so touched!
What a loving, caring, cool lady! I feel a loss for not having known her. I pray her passing was painless and that her family have strength to get through their loss.

(58,805 posts)We may have only known each other through the internet but I consider her very near & dear to me.
You were there to help me through some rough patches in my life and not once did you ever judge me, you accepted me for who I am.
When I read the news I was in shock, I am still in disbelief. Your presence here has been a positive & remarkable for many including myself.
I would love to write more here but I can't keep the tears out of my eyes.
Take care my friend. Till we meet again.

(36,252 posts)Our internet friendship had expanded to talking on the phone, and if not for being on the other side of the world, we would have been hanging out in real life. I know what you mean about her being there to help through rough patches. She was always there for me, even though her office had moved further away and she had a monstrous hours long commute to get there each day.
I only found out about an hour ago and it's still sinking in. I'd been fearing the worst as I hadn't heard from her since the end of January, but I was hoping she'd reappear and it was just real life getting in the way. But this is the worst. I've missed her the past few weeks when I haven't known where she was, and I can't even begin to describe how much I'm going to miss her now. It just sucks so much...
My heart goes out to her family and friends...
